Q1: When do the application processes and program begin? When should I pay the tuition? Can I pay for the program after I arrive in Taiwan?
A: The program starts from 2015/3/2 and ends on 2015/3/20. The application period is 2014/12/1 to 2015/1/23. The payment period is from 2015/1/26 to 2015/1/30. After your application is submitted on-line, a payment notice will be sent to your email account by 2015/1/26. Please wire the tuition and fax the receipt before the payment deadline 2015/1/30.
Note: we only accept tuition remitted to the specified account during the payment period. Late payment or pay-on-site will not be accepted.
Q2: Does the tuition fee of 1,000 USD cover accommodations, text books and meals?
A: The tuition fee covers language & culture classes, textbooks, and weekly excursions. Accommodation fees and meals are not included.
Q3: Does the tuition fee of 1,000 USD cover Excursions, Insurance, Admissions, or Transportation fees? Will I be charged for additional fees?
A: Yes, transportation and admission fees for the excursions, and travelers accidental insurance for the entire duration of the 3-week express program are included in the tuition fee. We hire buses and use public transportation for field trip days. The expenses and fares are covered by the tuition.
Q4: What should I bring with me for the first day of the program? Is my passport needed?
A: Besides pen/pencil and notebook for classes, please bring your passport with you for the orientation on the first day for the insurance registration. If possible, we suggest you keep your tuition payment receipt (original or photocopied one) with you for the first day.
Q5. Is airport pick-up service provided for individual students?
A: If you need an airport pick-up service, the MTC can recommend a number of chauffeur pick-up services. Please note that this service is not covered by your tuition fees.
Q6. How many classes/ levels are there? How do you place students in classes? What are the sizes of each class? Will the program be suitable for beginners who have never learned Chinese before?
A: The orientation session and placement tests will be given on the first day of the program. Students will be placed into classes based on the results of placement tests. The number of classes opened and the number of students in each class depend on the actual number of enrolled students. It is planned that 8 classes will be opened and there will be 6 to 10 students in each class. The available class levels are beginner, basic, intermediary and advanced levels. Many applicants are at beginner’s level, and they will be placed into the beginner’s class.
Q7. The program times do not fit my schedule. Can I join the class midway?
A: MTC upholds a standard for its educational norm and quality. ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE ORIENTATION AND PLACEMENT TEST ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS. Students may leave the camp early as a result of schedule conflicts; however, students are NOT allowed to join the class halfway. This policy is set to ensure the teaching quality for other students will not be compromised.
Q8. If my schedule changes and I am unable to attend the program after having completed the registration, is the tuition refundable?
A: 90% refund of tuition is available prior to the first day of the program(before 2015/3/2). 50% refund of tuition will be offered for requests submitted before one-third of the program is completed(before 2015/3/9). No refunds will be given after one-third of the program has completed(after 2015/3/9). Attention: All refund requests are processed at the end of the program.
Q9: May I choose not to join the cultural excursions or cultural classes? Can I get refunds for the classes I missed?
A: On the first day of the program, we will survey to find out if you will attend all the activities and classes. You may choose not to join some of the classes; however, you are still required to pay the full amount of tuition. No refund will be given for missed classes or excursions. Please see Q8 for our refund policy.
Q10: Will a Certificate of Completion or a transcript be issued?
A: For student who meet the required study hours a certificate of completion will be provided, for students who miss one third or more of language classed, no certificate will be issued.
Transcripts can be provided upon request at an additional handling fee.
Q11. What information should I fill out in the on-line application?
A. Student's name, birth date, passport number, contact information (two email accounts, fixed-line phone and cell-phone numbers, fax number, contact address) , emergency contact, special learning needs, self-evaluated Chinese proficiency, health status.
Q12. How should I pay the tuition?
A: A Payment Notice will be sent to your email account by 2015/1/26. Please wire the tuition fee in US dollars (US$ 1,000) to the bank account indicated by the Notice. After making the transfer, please fax your receipt to +886-2-2341-8431 by 2015/1/30. Be sure to indicate the student's name and the program title, "3-week Express Program", in the faxed receipt. If you fail to complete the said application procedure by the deadline, your application will be seen as incomplete and your seat will be canceled and opened to waiting list applicants. Be cautious of possible scams. Please make sure the email of Payment Notice is sent from ( studymtc@deps.ntnu.edu.tw ) and the beneficiary name of USD account is "National Taiwan Normal University 402U account."
Q13. How can I check my application status? When will I be contacted about my application?
A: We will show all the applicants' "Application Status" on our website and update it from Monday to Friday. Please note it usually takes 10-15 days to confirm the receipt of international remittance. For privacy concerns, we only post the APPLICATION NUMBER which you receive from the on-line application system after you have submitted your application online.
Q14:Can I use MTC facilities? Is wireless connection available?
A: You may use student facilities provided by the MTC, which include a library, language labs, a student lounge, and a computer room.. If you need wireless Internet access, you may apply for an account, which will grant you access for three weeks free of charge.
Q15. Do I need to apply for a visa?
A: Whether you need a visa depends upon the terms and conditions granted to your country. At present, visa-free countries include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic,Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Reublic of Korea, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, U.K., U.S.A., and the Vatican City State. As the visa-free stay period of each country varies, we suggest you consult the Bureau of Council Affairs website and inquire with the ROC consulate office nearest to you before application.
Q16. How do I get to the Mandarin Training Center, NTNU?
A: Address: 6F Bo-ai Building, No. 129 He-ping East Road Sec.1, Taipei City
MRT: Take Dansui Line(Red), Nanshijiao Line(Orange), or Xindian Line(Green) and get off at Gu-ting Station. Take Exit 5, and walk straight for 5~8 minutes.
Bus: Take bus 3、15、18、74、235、237、672、He-ping Line, and get off at the stop-"Shida(National Taiwan Normal University)"or "Shida 1"
